Written by Katherine Schultz Miller, A Thousand Cranes is based on the true story of a young Japanese girl named Sadako. When Sadako is told that she has leukemia (the "atom bomb disease"), she starts folding paper cranes. According to Japanese legend, if a person folds 1,000 cranes the gods will grant them a wish. Will Sadako finish making the cranes in time to have her health restored? Recommended for grades 3-8, A Thousand Cranes celebrates the extraordinary courage that made one young woman a heroine in Japan. The show will be directed by Maria Hornby, who was most recently footlights' stage manager for FAME.
