Below, we have listed a few of our most common questions to help you!
How do we get started?
We hold workshops and put on productions throughout the year. Check out or upcoming events page to find out the next thing you can sign up or audition for! If you'd like to be informed of future events you can also check us out on Facebook or join our mailing list.
Are adults allowed to participate in shows?
YES! Although Spotlight on Kids is primarily an organization for Children's Theatre we typically cast adults in our summer productions. Additionally we sometimes put on "Footlights" show which are aimed at older teens and adults. Having adults on stage provides role models and a great learning opportunity for kids. This also means that in the summer full families are able to perform together.
How often are rehearsals, and what is the time commitment expected from participants?
We try to keep rehearsals to Sunday's early afternoon. This is mainly so that kids can still participate in their school activities.
Rehearsals are usually 1pm - 4pm up until tech week. More rehearsal hours may be added depending on the Director and the show. All will be communicated beforehand to parents.
What age range do you accept for children joining SOK?
Some of our workshops are open to children as young as 4 years old. For our Spring shows, our youngest ages are children in Kindergarten and for our Summer shows we ask for children to be 8 years old and up. We try to make the age range clear for each event but if you have specific questions feel free too reach out!
Where are performances?
We often perform at JPAC but we also hold a few performances in our studio space located inside Uptown Janesville.
Where are rehearsals?
Rehearsals are typically held inside our studio at the Uptown Mall. As we get closer to show dates we often move some rehearsals to the stage we will be performing on.

Is there a fee associated with joining SOK, and if so what does it cover?
We ask for a registration fee for each show and/or workshop. This goes towards costuming, props and general cost of the show. We do offer a scholarship for families in need.
What type of performances does SOK typically put on?
Plays and Musicals are mainly what you can expect from SOK. However, we do have workshops that may have small performances at the end.
As a parent, how can I volenteer?
As a parent of a child in SOK, we have many areas for the parents to get involved. We have many parents that have talents, skills, and experience that would be well-suited for helping with our shows. At the beginning of each show, we have a list where parents can look at what SOK needs and sign up for opportunities.
